Have a Covid-Friendly Thanksgiving

Some of us are giving up our traditional big family meals for Thanksgiving this year. 2020 has been a real curveball, but if there’s one thing many of us have gained this year, it’s the ability to adapt and get creative. Social distancing doesn’t have to be boring. We can make our own fun with what we have. It’s been so uplifting to see how people around the world have found ways to be joyful, laugh, and celebrate all while keeping themselves and their communities safe.

So instead of focusing on what we're missing, let’s turn our focus on what we can do to make Thanksgiving extra special this year. It’s kind of nice to try out some new traditions. Who knows, maybe some will stick way beyond the pandemic!

  1. Virtual family dinner. Sit down at the table to eat at the same time as your family and join a video call to dine together. Don't forget to go around and say what you're thankful for!

  1. Create a Thanksgiving 2020 time capsule. Pop in a note of what you're thankful for, what you did this year to celebrate, a drawing, a scribbled-on napkin—whatever captures the spirit of your day! Save it for a future year when you and your family can all bring your time capsules to open together on Thanksgiving. This is a great one for kids, too!

  1. Up your cooking game. This is a great year to learn new dishes, like a fancier version of your usual casserole or some homemade bread for the table.

  1. Or get takeout! So many of us are overwhelmed lately, and if cooking is not enjoyable, why not take the whole day off? It can be just as special to get your meal delivered and have more relaxation time!

  1. Start decorating for the holidays. It’s the perfect opportunity to get the holiday decorations up early. Most of us are home more often this year, so it’ll be nice to enjoy the cheerful ambiance even more than usual. After you’ve eaten, pop on your favorite holiday tunes and kick off the holiday season early!

  1. Get outdoors. If the weather permits, Thanksgiving is the perfect day for a stroll or a hike outdoors. Wear some stretchy pants that will carry you from active time to completely stuffed post-meal.

Wishing you a very fun and safe Thanksgiving this year!
